Shravanabelagola
Shravanabelagola is most popular town for its Gommateshwara Bahubali Statue and is dedicated to the Jain figure Bahubali and its one of the largest free standing statues in the world which is located on Vindyagiri Hill and one of the most important pilgrimage destinations in Jainism. Also you can have a beautiful view of the surrounding areas from the top of the hill. An event known as Mahamastakabhisheka attracts devotees from all over the world. It is an important Jain festival held once in every 12 years, The last abhisheka took place in february 2018, The next abhisheka will be in 2030. when the Gommateshwara statue is anointed with milk, saffron, ghee, sugarcane juice etc. In 2007, the statue was voted as the first of Seven Wonders of India in a Times of India poll 49% of the total votes went in favor of it.
The other Hill Chandragiri is dedicated to the Jain figure Bharat, the brother of Bahubali and the son of the first tirthankara Adinatha. Nandihills is approximately 60 km from Bangalore City. located near Nandi town. Watching the sunrise & sunset on top from Nandi Hills is popular with tourists. Also the surrounding forest acts as a substrate for cloud condensation and every morning the trees are covered in water. This allows for many moist forest species of plants and animals. The hills are very rich in birdlife making it a very popular location for birdwatchers and bird photographers.
